About
What is a Luddite you might ask? Well, traditionally, it’s a person who violently rejects technology and progress, but I don’t go that far–thus my title “A Little Luddite.” Well that and I’m actually little… But back to the issue of being a Luddite–I accept technology as a useful tool with potential for building social connections, but at the end of the day, I prefer face to face interaction, and literally at the end of the day, I turn off my computer and cell phone and they’re off until I remember to turn them on again–sometimes the next day, sometimes the next week. So who in the heck am I and why in the heck am I writing a blog given this ambivalence about technology? Well, I’m an anthropologist and a psychologist and a linguist and a human rights coordinator and a wife and a friend and a daughter and… and… and…. At heart, though, I’m a person who appreciates simplicity, sincerity, and making do with my own two hands and a little bit of creativity. As to why I blog, well you can blame my friend Mike, but mostly it’s the irony of my work that has me blogging (I love how this has become a verb!). My work as a project coordinator in human rights requires me to know about things like blogs, and tweets, and text messages, and a myriad other digitally mediated ways that people use to meet other people and share information in this digital age. And as an anthropologist, what better way to learn about such things than to participate in them first hand? So welcome read, enjoy, and leave a comment if you feel inspired. I hope that you enjoy the eclectic mix that you find here as I embark on my ironic journey as a blogging Luddite.
